Please contact Berkeley County Animal Control (BCAC) at 304-263-4729 if a dog is running at large or is injured. In the event of an emergency, such as a dog bite or injured animal, and BCAC is not available, please dial 911.

The City of Martinsburg allows two adult dogs per household. An adult dog is defined as being in excess of six months in age or in possession of permanent canine teeth. Any person who harbors more than two adult dogs shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be fined, upon conviction, a minimum of $100 and a maximum of $500 per dog, in excess of two adult dogs, per day, and any dog in excess of the allowable limit may be subject to seizure. 

The City of Martinsburg prohibits the keeping of farm animals and dangerous animals. This includes backyard chickens and other fowl as well as goats, swine (including pot-bellied pigs) or any animal expressly listed in Section 505.07 or 505.13 (c).

The City of Martinsburg does not require a special City dog license or registration, however, all dogs residing in City limits MUST be registered and licensed with Berkeley County and must have a current rabies vaccination.
